S-League

March 12, 2010

All this talk about Singaporeans not being interested in local soccer and being more interested in English/Spanish/Italian soccer has got me thinking: Why is it so? Yes, overseas leagues are more technical, more exciting, and the players are so much more skillful, but surely Singaporeans would be proud of supporting their local team too? Wouldn’t you feel a stronger sense of identity seeing the Chinese, Malay and Indian players playing for Tampines Rovers, at a local stadium, rather than watch the English, French and Serbian play for Manchester United, on the television?

So I check the papers for the S-League table (I don’t even know what are the teams in the league), and guess what? I couldn’t find any table. I look out for it the next day, still no luck. Even if there are S-League matches being played the night before, only the score is reported, no table. And the match report is so small, its usually hidden in some obscure corner, or on the last page of the sports section, sharing the page with the obituary. What’s the deal? I still haven’t seen the S-League table after a month! Well, if the papers aren’t interested in the S-League, then obviously we will have less coverage (honestly who goes to s-league.com to check for updates?), and as a result, less interest in S-League.

Oh well. At least I know FC Étoile won the League Cup. Vive la France!

Thoughts on Jack Neo

March 12, 2010

Well since the man in the spotlight is none other than our favorite crowd pleasing comedy man Jack Neo, and his extra-marital affair (and advances), I thought I should chip in with my point of view on the matter too.

First and foremost, let he who has no sin cast the first stone. I mean, he did screw up gloriously, and now is perhaps the worst time of his life, but hey, he’s human after all right? And as humans we all make mistakes, big or small. I for one am not judging him too quickly yet. Anyway his humiliation is already the worst punishment he could receive, imo, so what for rub salt in his wounds?

Next up. He actually told his wife that he was having an affair with a (not very attractive) 22 year old, 2 months ago.  This can be interpreted in 2 ways:

1. He knew that she was going to come clean with the media, so he had to exercise damage limitation. Might as well confess first and show his wife that he repented, so that he would not follow the path of Tiger Woods where his wife refuses to talk to him. At least by confessing he might win her over.

2. He was truly repentant.

I personally think he was truly repentant. Why would Wendy want to betray him out the blue? Unless he screwed her over (you know what I mean), and it was unreported. However, she herself said that she decided to confront Jack when she felt that he wasnt spending enough time with her. So its probably not reason 1. In any case, reason 2 holds logic, because if he was truly repentant, he would spend less time with Wendy (duh), which leads her to feeling neglected, and thus confrontation.

So at least Jack knew that he sinned, and was repentant about it and did what he had to do, instead of letting it [the affair] carry on indefinitely.

Third, Wendy has a serious character flaw. I mean, I’m truly surprised that the media didn’t focus on her, but totally on Jack. Granted, he’s the celebrity, but surely her character should be called into question too, no? Firstly, she went into the relationship knowing full well what she was going into. She spouted some nonsense (I dont remember exactly what) as to why she chose to be with him, but ultimately she knows that she would be playing the role of the 3rd party. Heck, just take the other girls who Jack harassed for example. He sends them 30smses a day, they’re young and new to the industry, but they rejected his advances. My point is, knowing full well that their r’ship is a discreet one, she chooses to go public with it, just because Jack ‘has been ignoring her’. Wow. She could’ve chose to not go on with the illicit relationship, or announce to the world what was going on, thus ruining him, but more importantly, giving herself publicity and public sympathy. Why people sympathise with her, that really escapes me. She’s not a victim, she’s more of cunning and enterprising more than anything else. For me, she has totally lost my respect, and I hope I never see her ever again in any movies/TV series.

Penultimately, the other girls who were harassed by him has every right to go public with his advances on them. Not the most opportune time for him, but he ought to face up to the sins that he has committed. I mean, its true that he harassed them against their will, and in most cases, their detriment, so it is only right that they do so.

Lastly, his wife is amazing. Wow. She is truly a woman who is not only forgiving, but long-suffering. Indeed the only person from this saga who has emerged in a positive light is this lady Irene Kng. She totally has my respect man. I can scarcely imagine what she has been going through!

Bah. We’ll see what happens in the end though! Can’t wait to find out! 🙂

Aug 28th – Milano

September 29, 2009

This time round, we went inside Duomo itself. Yesterday we couldn’t because Jasmine was wearing shorts, and entry required proper dress. We don’t know what is proper dress, but we assumed that skirts were allowed, considering that yesterday we saw people emerging wearing skirts.

Well, the guy at the gate turned us away, again! Because Jas was wearing a skirt. There were people outside Duomo selling scarves for coverup purposes, but the (lousy quality) scarves cost €5. Yup. €5. So in the end we went to H&M to buy some leggings. This time round, they let us pass.

After that, we decided to go see free museum. We chose some Astronomy Museum. After walking for a long time to find the place, we found it, and to our dismay the museum was so terrible! We didn’t even stay in there for more than 2mins. So boring. So in the end, we walked back to Duomo, again..

Aug 27th – Milano!

September 29, 2009

So after a 15hr travelling time, we finally touched down in Milano! From Malpensa Airport we had to take a bus to the city centre, which set us back by €12 each. Dragging our luggage from the bus to the cab would be a very difficult task, but a guy was waiting for us there, eager to help us. (He squeezed a €4 tip out of us in the end). But it would be difficult to drag everything anyway, I had 36kg of stuff and she had 47 🙂 We were headed to Hotel Catalani and Madrid, somewhere near the Loreto area.

Actually the room isn’t v big. No lift somemore, we had to drag everything upstairs! Was quite a bitch to carry, but in the end we succeeded!

And after that, we went to walk around. First up was our first Italian food along Corso Buenos Aires.

First Italian Pasta!

Was okay only leh. The penne was done al dente, which means that it is slightly undercooked. So some bits were stuck in my teeth and all. But oh well. After lunch was shopping!

And outside this magnificent Galleria where all the high end brands can be found, there is the Duomo cathedral, the single most important building in Milano. Without which, Milano would be damn boring with nothing to see at all.

Beautiful eh? This is the single reason why (I think) everyone is in Milan for. The architecture is superb, very detailed and defined. Awesome. I dont know how the ancient people managed to achieve all of these without the use of power tools man. Must be very talented people then!

At night, there’s nothing much to do. We got wifi in the hotel (€5 a day), so we just ended up using the internet at night!

Aug 26th – Singapore

September 29, 2009

So this post goes all the way back to more than a month ago, when I was to fly to Europe. Milano, the fashion capital of Italy, was gonna be my first stop! I was going to travel with Jasmine 🙂 and so we turned up at Changi Airport Terminal 3.

Family Photo

The church people also came down to see us off. Special thanks to Darryl, Al Choy, Josh, Theo, Zun Kit, Cheryl and Jolene!

A really cool thing happened. When I checked in my luggage, the counter staff asked if I would like to change my flight to transit at Frankfurt, instead of flying to Milan direct. They were willing to compensate me S$500, give an inflight voucher of US$100, and give a S$20 meal voucher for Coffee Club! After a bit of paperwork, the deal went through. Awesome! Before the trip started I got so much money liao. Plus the Frankfurt flight leaves a mere 5mins later, and reaches Milan 2 hours later. Not that bad a deal, to me.

I love to travel!

September 29, 2009

Finally! At long last after travelling around USA and Europe, I’m finally (more or less) settled down here in Lyon, the gastronomical capital of France! Haven’t had the time, or in some cases, the internet to properly describe the traveling experience that I have had, so I shall attempt to do so now! Currently I’m in my room alone, cos my dear roommate Felipe (from Brazil) decided to go on a trip to the French beaches since last Fri (10 days ago), and he’s still not back yet! Wonder where he is right now..

It seems that no matter how early I try to get to school for exams I just can’t reach the exam hall in time. Today I left house approximately 15 mins earlier than on monday, yet i reached mpsh6 2 mins early. Yes, 2 mins early. Its the stupid bus 96 larh always so crowded in the morning.

And the best part is that I had a stomachache while doing the paper! Sian man. The paper was at 9am; I had to go toilet to relieve myself at 930am. lol. Good thing it was a quick shit if not waste time shitting instead of doing exam. Haha.

The exam itself was quite shag. Although monday’s and today’s papers were both 2.5hrs long, I ran out of time today, unlike on monday (partly cos I didnt know how to do much anyway). And its not cos of the shit. Got 2 questions also fiendishly difficult, up till now I don’t even understand the question itself. I don’t even know what they want! Sucks man. Why last year’s paper so easy and this years one so hard. Dammit.

Oh well at least its almost over 🙂 left one more paper on next tues. Wah cant wait for that day to come man. Damn sian.

Really pissed off with the paper I took this morning. Seriously, its so gay that out of the 25 MCQs, I can only be very very certain of getting 7 correct. Yippee. It was a 2.5hr paper, 25 MCQs, but I think you give me the whole day to think I also probably can’t give you an answer. Urgh.

And best part is today I was late for the paper! Ok, about 2 mins late, but late nevertheless. Shit man I took 96 from clementi, took super longg to get to the SRC bus stop. Damn it man. Next time shd take 198 from buona vista..

Feeling so tired the whole day cos i think i used too much brainpower in the morning!

its 2am now
